You do not have a lease, you have paper. Without her signature it is not a lease at all. And, no, of course it is not a crime not to have a lease! It is perfectly legal for people to rent on a month to month basis.

If you put a stop payment on the check you have committed fraud, and fraud is a crime. If the check is more then $300 bucks you committed felony fraud.

You will not have to worry about moving, you belong in jail.

Actually a lease without a signature is voided 100%. However you have the check to prove that you made payment. It is true she cannot deny you a signed copy of the lease. However, it comes down to your word versus her word in court. You won’t win. Also you put a stop payment on your rent so why not take that money and move? You have no actual real case. It is yopur responsibilty to get a copy of all legal documentation before surrendering any monies due and receiving your keys. You are just as at fault as the "landlord" who has not given you a copy. I go to court all the time and I can tell you. You won’t win.

How long have you lived there? 30 days puts you as a legal resident and they have to legally evict you.

Not at all.

Mostly as there really is no "look" for Anglophone Canada. Canadian towns and villages very a great deal, depending on where they are. Gander, Newfoundland looks nothing like Smith Falls Ontario, and neither of them looks like Whitehorse, Yukon, all places with roughly the same population. Even areas of provinces can look different - there is almost a distinct line in New Brunswick running roughly north-west to south-east where the architecture changes.

It looks similar to Hamilton in Southern Ontario. The main Street reminds me a little bit of some of the older parts of Ottawa as well.
